Title: Insulating the corner covers
Post by: MIEric on April 22, 2013, 07:29:10 PM
I haven't seen where anyone has done this.
I did this last Nov and closed the camper up without taking any pictures then.\

The insulation is 1/2" thick reinforced blue foam board. It measures 2" wide x 39 1/4" long. I attached it to the corner covers with heavy duty carpet tape. Fits great when the covers are attached.
I'm thinking about painting them the ABS color.

I put new weather-stripping around the outside of mine but why would you put insulation in there? it just covers the post?

It fills in the air gap. For the same reason as any insulating.

I don't think it's all that big a deal. I just thought I'd do it to close up some major air gap to slow cool and heated air from escaping or infiltrating so quickly. There are advantages and disadvantages in both ends of the spectrum.

There's just no way of escaping that these units can not be "insulated" to be as effective as insulating a building, or a motor home or travel trailer. All one can hope to do is slow down the transfer in a very leaky enclosure.

I agree, Apache trailers are just a step above a tent, pretty hard to insulate.  I put Reflectix in the roof and some foam tape on the corner covers but that's where I plan on stopping.
