Jack springs on my 74 Roamer
« on: March 18, 2013, 05:28:02 PM »
Each of the 4 factory Jacks have 2 springs, one that is a 2 3/4" long extension spring that pull the jack leg up to keep it in the notch either as up or down, and a tension spring that holds the lever in that sets the height in the down position.
I pulled one jack apart today, is will be a simple rebuild IF I can find the springs. (Sandblasted and repainted in less than an hour).
Has anyone rebuild the factory "Quick jacks", and where did you find the springs? If I have to replace the jack I certainly don't want to waste time rebuilding what is there. With proper springs they will be safe and MUCH FASTER than sissor type jacks.
Any help on my search will be greatly appreciated!  ;D

Do you have a pic of the extension spring?  Mine must be different from yours. Mine are stowed with a pin with a small spring.  Not the most secure.

Trucker, those replacement jacks look real nice. Looks like another to do thing when I get ambitious again.

Studioman I agree with all you said except that they will be faster then scissor jacks. I put my scissor jacks down and up with a cordless drill. Very fast.  ;)

Here is a pic of the springs. Tomorrow I'll get pics of the jacks. Assuming I don't find them tomorrow. I'm on a mission. :-)

I did end up finding the springs I needed (McMaster Carr). I ended up just rebuilding my jack. They came out perfect.
I'll see if I don't have the part#. For the spring that pulls the jack in, I actually wrapped an 8 penny nail around the top pin, then attached the spring to that. Pictures to follow soon.

Thanks for the info!  Need to order as the spring let loose and the leg of the rear jack was  lost on one of our trips....
