Need help to rebuild the "adjusted-A-level legs" / Raven 66
« on: March 03, 2016, 05:01:51 PM »
Hello Apache-friends,

Iīm doing a complete restoration of a Raven 1966. At the moment Iīm fighting with the legs. Can anyone help me to identify the missing parts?
A photo of the complete legs would help me a lot.

I donīt understand the function of the smaller springs. Do you know any possibility to find them new? They look very bad.

Many thanks for your help,

Hope

PS: I tried to add a photo of the single parts, but I failed. So maybe later.

I rebuilt my 63 Raven from the ground up.  The small springs you are talking about go on the butterfly latch that clicks as you lower the leg and latches the stabilizer legs in place on the ground.  It looks like 2 torsion springs but has a u shape on one end, right?  If that is the spring your are talking about they are not available.  I ordered some spring steel wire and made my own.  It's not an easy process, but can be done by hand with a bolt sticking up out of a piece or wood.

Is this the spring you are talking about?

No problem ............. we have totally different timezones. You start to work ... and Iīll go to bed soon.
Tomorrow I try loading up my photos again. Strange - for the gallery it has been working. If I donīt manage it here in the post Iīll show them in my album.

Have a nice day and good night.

Hope

PS: 2 more photos are in the gallery

I created an album called Stabilizer Leg and uploaded the pics there.  I hope that helps.

Here's a link to that Album

Hello SHI-Warlock,

now I see the first picture again, but the two others are just small black crosses.

But I can see the pics in your album. They help allready a lot; only the function of the small spring isnīt clear. Could you please make a macro??

And I see rivets in the middle of the leg and at the butterfly latch, and some screws for the rest; is that right?

Hope

They were all rivets at one point.  I replaced the rivets that I removed with binding posts and binding bolts of the appropriate size.  I think that's what they're called anyway.  I can't remember off the top of my head.  Make sure you use a drop of blue Locktite on each bolt when you put them back together.  I put another picture in the same album of basically what the binding posts and bolts look like.

The spring goes on the post to keep upward tension on the butterfly latch.  I'll get a picture in a couple hours and post it to the same gallery.

Many many thanks !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  ;D

I think, now I can manage ist. Will post pictures when itīs done. First I have to look for the rivets and the other small things, but next weekend they should be fixed (except the smaller springs; I have to make new ones).

And before Iīll fixe the axle, leaf springs and the wheels; they are ready, freshly painted with POR 15!!! So hopefully no more rust in the next years.

Iīll show you the result in my gallery.

Many thanks again, Hope.

I have a spring place a few towns over that says "no job too big or SMALL". I might go over there with the two springs and see what it costs for a batch of them.

Hello nt40lanman,

that would be really great  :) , because I really donīt know if I could make them by myself. But the next problem, ........ would you also send them to Germany ? And how can I pay you ?

If you would do that for me, then please directly 4 new springs. Only two are complete rotten, but the other two arenīt very good anymore.

Hope.

PS: I have an idea how to pay you ! Please send me a PM.
