Center cap size ?
« on: September 14, 2009, 04:05:08 PM »
Does anyone know the center cap size on the wheel hub of a 79 Ramada ? I am trying to buy bearing buddies for my wheels but I need to know the size.

I am looking mostly at 1.781"  or 1.980"  there may be other sizes too but I just found out Lowes has these at the store so I can probably just check there for it

I don't know what size you need, but I do know you have to careful when using them so as to not "over fill". The picture is gone from the post but it was a real mess.

Bearing Buddies are a bad Idea, especially if you use the trailer brakes.  It's too easy to blow grease past the back seal.  If you look through the old forum posts they also say that they are bad news for this reason.  Besides the bearings should be cleaned as well as the grease changed every so often.  Periodic maintenance also lets you check the condition of the seals as well as the bearings.  Just blowing in new grease may give peace of mind, but it's always what you don't know about that bites you.  It is the 1.980 (at least on my '75) whichever way you choose to go.

tom is right. which everway you go, be sure to pull the bearings and check and replace or repack them. those buddies won't be your friend if you blow out your bearings on a trip and you are broken down on the side of the road 250 miles from home.... not fun
