$700 is about right. be shure to get a vynal coated top. the oem canvas top allowed a dampness to filter through on a heavy rain. If a hard rain is comming i have a blue tarp i throw over even though the top is totaly water proof. The bed end wall don't get damp then. My camper is made with sunbrella synthic canvas. If it is put up a little damp it won't start to rot. You still need to dry it thourghly asap after the rain. Canvas works fine but you have to be finatical about drying it out.

I am one happy camper. I just got off the phone with Paul St Pierre. He is a very nice man. I sent my canvas to him and it arrived 6 days ago and with the busy days that come with the holidays , he finished "rebuilding" my original canvas in 6 days from arrival-WOW. He replaced all my screens and all my zippers and replaced all the snaps that looked worn and restitched all the ceiling threads. I more or less have a new canvas and including shipping it was $385.00. Thats less then half the price of a new one and it would have taken 8 weeks to get it back.  I cant wait to get it back and finish my restoration. I will have pics as soon as the weather breaks here. I highly recommend Paul.

Been awhile since I visited the site.  I've been working on a doctoral program.  I'm 2 years into my 3 years of coursework.  Taking a study break tonight.  Need to get new canvas for both of my 1972 Eagles.  Current canvas is original, starting to rip, and does not accept 2 coats of Canvak...so water comes right through the top during rain.

Questions, since I've been out of the loop:

#1 - Any updates regarding Bear Creek or Gregory's Canvas?  Current Prices?  Contact #'s?  Turnaround time to get new canvas?
#2 - I'm tempted to go OEM canvas (for the purist in me), but like the idea of the coated top.  Thoughts about this?
#3 - Plastic windows on the hitch side are a must.  (I have an awning for the door side.)  Is the plastic tinted or clear?  I like clear plastic, b/c that's what we currently have.  But I suspect there's value in tinted plastic windows.  Anyone have the tinted plastic?  Or have an opinion on tinted plastic regarding durability, etc?
#4 - Anything else I should be thinking about related to purchasing new canvas?

Thanks,
Curtis

For canvas repairs, find a place that make boat covers.  Likely they make or repair tents also.  On my 69 Eagle, I had all the screens replaced and 1/3 of the roof replaced besides a few smaller patches.

Our 1967 Apache Falcon needed new screens.  I sent it by UPS to:

Paul St. Pierre
253 N. Bassett Street
Lapeer, MI 48446
810-664-3152

When I received it back, the screens were neatly replaced with matching color fabric, and many other seams were rebound, all using an olive drab vinyl binding in place of the original twill tape.  He even rebound the replacement door zipper we had installed several years ago.  The elastic tiedowns under the beds were all replaced, and have new hooks.  The work almost looks factory-produced.

Mr. St. Pierre was unfailingly courteous and polite.

Schedule: I shipped it on 11/19/2012.  He received it on 11/21.  He finished the work and called to tell me the price on 11/26.  I sent a check, and received the completed tent back on 12/3

His pricing was very fair.

I highly recommend his work.  I also had him make a new road cover.  http://www.apachepopups.net/smf/index.php?topic=12328.msg120614#msg120614

Bucky,
You went to the right place. Paul was one of the original canvas makers at the Vesely factory where they were making all apaches. He knows the canvas inside and out. Glad you got a great deal and awesome work.

I recommend  you get a canvas replacement with the vynal top!! I had an oem top and now a new one with white vynal. The difference is night and day. The old top would make the camper unbeariably hot in the summer by 10 am. The vynal reflects the sun to the point where opening the windows  helps cool the camper for an afternoon nap if you so desire. It is totaly waterproof, and seems to hold heat better in the fall.
