Acadia National Park trip
« on: August 24, 2014, 01:16:11 PM »
After all the improvements done to the Ramada, my family took a trip to Acadia National Park, Mount Desert Island, Maine. http://www.nps.gov/acad/index.htm The trip from Boston area is 280 miles one way. The new 13" tires works fine along with the suspension lift. The double step was installed prior to the trip and work out great. Also the electric road cover lift works out so good, I didn't bring my long crank handle. Just brought a short crank just in case, and did not need to use it. Only one glitch was the ATV winch cable remote I was using as the lift motor remote, well, I got what I paid for. The down button was intermittent, probably inexpensive switch contacts, but was able to get it to work. Next time I should bring along the wireless remote as backup. There are many campgrounds on the island, both private and national park campgrounds. There is a free shuttle bus with campgrounds loop will take you into village green in Bar Harbor, also other shuttle to various part of the National park. This is our third trip with Ramada to Bar Harbor/Woodlands KOA. There is also a companion KOA 1.5 miles down the street, Bar Harbor/ Oceanside KOA but a lot less tree cover and right on the water. Oceanside KOA usually packed with big rigs so there may not be much of a view out of our windows anyway. Here are some picture and links.

Chevy Suburban with 4.5 inches drop draw bar, looks pretty level towing.

Our campsite, no other campers around during mid-week. You will notice the campground reviews complain about mosquitoes, but really folks?, this is Maine and lot of wood and water on the island. I did bring my screen room/add-a-room so bugs were not a big issue for us. http://koa.com/campgrounds/bar-harbor-woodlands/ ;D

Our campsite from the the bathroom/laundry building, which is on the main driveway. This picture was taken after the screen room was taken down on the morning before we left camp.

Ramada without the screen room, rope lights and double step works great.

Picture from the summit of Cadillac Mountain, looking toward the town of Bar Harbor in fog, and you will see a giant cruise ship in the harbor.

Another view of the harbor from the Precipice Trail in Acadia National Park. http://www.acadia.ws/precipice.htm

A view of my portable kitchen inside the screen room/add-a-room. Yes! I travel with a rice cooker, french press coffee maker, and Coleman triple burner stove. Coleman propane lantern usually stay outside on the picnic table.

Hi 79 Ramada, that is an amazing camping area and an awesome set up you have there  8)
Maybe I will try to get to Bar Harbor next year, I did camp in Maine 2 times this year, once was the weekend of Hurricane Arthur, the second weekend was drier  ;D.
We should consider a Round up down that way.
Awesome pics, thanks for posting them

We were at the same campground in 2009 and our trip was cut short by one day from Hurricane Bill. Hurricane eventually go out to sea without landfall in Maine, but did not want to pack up in the rain. Sadly, there were death and injuries in the park due to high waves crashing on the seashore where the tourists are. http://www.nationalparkstraveler.com/2009/08/updated-7-year-old-dies-acadia-national-park-hurricane-bills-waves-wash-three-atlantic-injur

What a beautiful place to camp, thank you for sharing your pictures. I'm glad your mods all worked out so well, although I knew they would. I've learned that everything you make comes out like a pro
made it. Glad you had such a great vacation.  ;)

Sadly I do not have pictures however I drove from Western Washington to Spokane and camped for two days. Then I went to Leavenworth WA for a few days. The trailer towed awesome and everything worked great. I still need to replace the living hinges and a couple of caps but I put a tarp over each end for now and I stayed dry and warm. I will be replacing the living hinges and caps hopefully soon. Next time I will make sure to get some pictures. Love my 1972 Apache Ramada especially since I got it for only $250 and everything works. :)
