Replacing bed end caps and side wall seals

For the past two camping trips, we had some heavy rain storms, and one particular bed end corner will always get a leak. I just threw a tarp on it for the time beings. I was too busy with interior remodeling but now is the time to really check out what is going on. I was surprise how bad my side wall seals are. The seals are cracked, split ends, mildew, and missing plastic pins. You can see in the picture below, there is a whole chunk of bed end cap is missing and expose the split seal to the weather, and water simply find they way in without much impedence. If you have problem with rain water leak at bed ends, check these out first.



Here is the panel with new seals sticked on.



I wasn't so sure about the new double sticky tape on the seal but, they were fairly easy to replace one you got the first one done. The new seal is also slightly larger diameter bulb, so they fits snuggly into the bed end walls, better then the original seals. Here is a picture of old and new seals on two different panels, and cross section the seals.

The seals on my 74 are mildewed like your old ones, I tried cleaning them but they never look good.
I can see I need new ones like yours, they are on my parts needed from Apache Sales Corp list for next spring

Here is an end view of the new seal. I got mine from another source, but I believe it is one of the same. I had to go this route because the dealer takes Paypal payments. There is a small markup but I'm not going in debt fixing up my camper either.

My bed end cap replacement was long overdue. I was going to replace a damaged bed end cap where the water leak was. I did replaced the side wall seals last fall, but early winter and cold and rainy spring had delayed my project until now. I also discover living hinge below my bed end window wall (the old plastic type) has 12" split and getting worse. So I have delay the bed end cap replacement until I got those living hinge replaced last weekend. I'll post some pictures of my living hinge replacement as new topic. Now here the new bed end cap with Crylon Dover White plastic paint. The color is a bit lighter than the original Apache AB, but sure looks better then the replacement dark gray.

You can get their phone number off the web site then call Debbie and she will help you order them. There are left and right hand caps.

well i am gratefull for this site. I have rustolluim speciality white paint 4 plastic any comments on how well this paint performs versus the krylon?

I would think the rustolluim for plastic will work just fine. It's made for plastic go for it.
